Outside-In
Architecture 

Icebox Energy flips the conventional cooling model. Instead of beginning at the chip and working outward, we start at the mechanical yard — with a centralized CO₂-based heat pump — and bring cold in with precision. This shift unlocks performance, efficiency, and flexibility. 

What this enables

  • First end-to-end closed-loop CO2 system, 50% fewer components, increased reliability in smaller, modular and scalable package

  • Eliminates intermediate losses to maximize compute per watt—enabling greater use of free cooling and lowering both average and design-day PUE, cutting energy use by 30-60%

  • Eliminates water use entirely and simplifies operations by removing need for towers, water chemistry, and F-gas

  • Powered by dense CO₂ to support 500+kW racks, 1000+W chips —10x denser than PEGwater and 30x denser than HFOs—enabling compact, high-performance deployments

  • Wide temperature flexibility, with inlet coolant temperature from 15C to 60C
